Troop 342 members identified as "Model Campers"
by wilderness ranger and the Vail Daily newspaper!
In mid-July, Assistant Scoutmaster Tom Meiser and Eagle Scout Sam were backpacking in the
Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness area, when they were interviewed by the VailDaily
newspaper, and Wilderness Ranger, Eric Tierney. Ranger Tierney maintains the area around
Snowmass Lake from illegal campfires and trash, and checks campers and hikers for following
the rules, which includes the use of bear canisters in this area.
Tom & Sam were complying with all regulations, and following Leave-No-Trace principles,
and therefore identified as "Model Campers.
These are examples of exemplary Scouts in Action!

Troop 342... King of Klondike Once Again!
After several years of coming ever so close, Troop 342 and the Tree Frog Patrol once again, climbed to the top of the mountain
and became the Gateway District's "King of Klondike"
Beyond bragging rights, the Patrol members received the custom made King of Klondike Hat - in addition to the Troop 342 commemorative hat,
which honored the 2016 SuperBowl 50 Champions... the Denver Broncos!
Scouts sporting the orange & blue 2016 Troop Klondike Hats, and also the "2016 King of Klondike" hats - or both.
High Adventure 2015...
Troop 342 once again took on 70 miles of the Green River in Utah, for the 2015 High Adventure Activity. While the Green River is
not the only venue for our famous canoe trips, it is one of the favorites! Watch for the next canoe adventure in 2018!
PHILMONT or Bust - 2017
This is the Greatest Show on Earth!
Troop 342 was able to secure not one but two slots at the famed Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimmaron, New Mexico for 2017. Both treks will cover approximately 80-miles
of scenic New Mexico mountains in a once-in-a-lifetime backpack activity. The opportunity only happens every 4-5 years, so we truly feel fortunate to have secured another trek this close to the 2014 expedition! Scouts ages 14 and above will be eligible to attend, but the Troop has more Scouts that qualify than we have available slots for. Each trek is expected to have nine Scouts and three adult leaders. The price of $800 covers the training hikes, a "shakedown" backpacking weekend, and of course, Philmont!
Scouts are encouraged to sign up early for an available slot.
